Reconditioning

Reconditioning Process

COASTAL PIPE OF LA, INC. PIPE RECONDITIONING SERVICES

All raw pipe, as it enters our yard is inspected for Norm using a Ludlum Model 3 survey meter.  The appropriate freight bill noting pertinent well information is utilized to complete Coastal Pipe of Louisiana, Incorporated Incoming Pipe Form. The Incoming Pipe Form ensures inventory tracking of Company and Customer owned tubing.

ID and OD Cleaning w/ API Full Length

All raw pipe is air reamed in the interior with a metal cutter to remove scale and foreign matter.  As it is being cleaned, the pipe receives an API full length drift.  The exterior is brushed with a 10” X 10” wire brush. The tubing is cleaned twice; as the tubing enters the cleaning equipment and exits the cleaning equipment.

Visual Inspection

The interior and exterior of the pipe is visually inspected on both ends of the tubing for defects with a seal beam by our Plant Specialist that has >35 years experience.  We also visually inspect the pin and box threads.

Pipe Reconditioning – Clean, Drifted and Tested

A hydrostatic test to 80% minimum yield is performed on the tubing.
A constant visual observation of the tubing occurs during the test to insure no minor pin or collar leaks. All threads are doped with API modified pipe dope and thread protectors are installed. The tubing is stenciled to verify successful drifting, testing and completion of the reconditioning processes.

Pipe Reconditioning – Bucked off and reinstalled collars

All collars are bucked off and reinstalled on the opposite end of the tubing with the collars reversed.  This procedure exposes unused pin and box threads for future use by customers.  During this procedure all threads are visually inspected.  Meanwhile, all rejected collars are replaced.  After tubing has been bucked and turned the tubing is re-cleaned and drifted to ensure no damage has occurred to the tubing.

Electronic Inspections

All tubes are run through our VEDAQ-2000 Electromagnetic Inspection Unit. It’s a Transverse full length EMI Scan Two function machine. It verifies the wall loss and detects any defects on the tubes. Defects are proven up by utilizing an Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge. All tubes are manually measured in four places in the circumference of tubes with a U.T. Gauge. A Visual Thread Inspection on both the ID and OD of connections are also conducted during this operation.
